Setting Flag Using Set Flag Block

Hi Guys
I have some bool variables set to false in the variable input section. I wanted to use these variable to with block Set Flag (True or false) so that the flag name does not have to be typed each time. Appears that it does not work until the variable name is typed onto the flag name field. Also CHECK FLAG don't seem to do anything if variable is pulled rather than typed. Can anyone clarify if this is expected behaviour. -
