Yes, I understood that as profits increase or losses decrease the balance, then 100% will represent a different figure, and that's what I was expecting. So when I do my inelegant custom code block, that's what happens. But unfortunately not if I use the buy/sell block's % of balance.

If I've decided to risk 3% of my current balance of GBP 10000 on a position, then I'd be placing GBP 300. As you say, if I have any leverage active on the account - and I may not - then I can take that into consideration separately.

The disk activity starts after hitting the OK on the "Runtime Error!" message.

I'm working on build 037 (01 May 2013). Is there a newer one? The local version isn't telling me there is.

I've also just realised that the really useful Filter Trade Event blocks don't seem to be available in MQL5. Do you plan to add them?

    • RE: Buy/Sell block money management 100% of balance

When I do my not very good method inside a custom code block, I get a sum of money order. So if I have 10000 GBP, I end up with that amount in my order. On the spread bet platform the lot size seems irrelevant as its sums of money that the broker goes by. If I were trading CFDs or something other than spreads, then I think lot size comes into play, but I've only looked at spread bets. So on the spreads, my minimum cash allowable is 0.1 GBP.

I hope I've got that right!

Ah! 😄 Tiny black things! Yes. Never spotted them before! Now the EA is working. I have no idea how this block became self-connected. I didn't do it deliberately! Maybe it would be possible to code fxDreema to check for this sort of thing and do an "are you sure?"

Anyway, I'll now look out for this first if Stack Overflow appears.

      Thank you! 😄

I did try different levels, and from memory if I specify some silly figure like 100000% (might not have been this, but similar!) my whole balance (GBP 10000) would be placed.

Also, will the "Custom MQL4 code" block work OK in MQL5?

Could this be a connected issue? I seem to get this error upon exiting from fxDreema from time to time, maybe after a file has become corrupted. This particular occurrence of this error happened when I exited fxDreema just now after editing the so.mq5 file with the corruption.

Ah... we may be getting to the heart of the matter now. As you see from my screen shot, block 6 is, as far as its concerned, disconnected from itself. Could this be where the corruption is creeping in? FxDreema seems to think one thing, and the underlying code another?

    • RE: Buy/Sell block money management 100% of balance

The only way around it that I have come up with is to create 2 variables, one called "PlayCash" and the other "Balance", then place a piece of code in a "Custom MQL4 code" block which then picks up the actual current balance of my account, calculates the percentage I wish to use, and puts this figure in "PlayCash" just ahead of placing the Buy / Sell.

Then, in my Buy now/Sell now blocks, I use the fixed volume choice, and right-click the field to drop "PlayCash" into it. This works for me, but isn't very elegant, and being a non-programmer took me ages to figure out!! 🙂

I haven't tested so don't know if the "Custom MQL4 code" block will work in MT5 - will it?

    • RE: HTTPS , Linux/Wine

I'd like to update my previous entries.

Previously I'd been working with MT4 only. Now I have trialled MT5 in Linux, using the Wine emulator, and found it to work perfectly for testing purposes. I have not traded with MT5 in Linux, but have read somewhere that trading may not be wholly advised due to some latency issue. I'd therefore recommend the use of Oracle VM Virtual Box running Windows for trading purposes if your overall platform is Linux.

The MT5 tester works fast in Linux / Wine.

I have 15 blocks and 8 variables. In retrospect I think what I did just before the Stack Overflow error was to change the value of a numeric variable. I think I also amended a block title and may have moved the block on screen too; but the main thing was changing the value in the variable.

Yes. OK. Sorry. But that said, I assumed that 100% of balance meant just that, irrespective of currency pair. After all, my account at the broker will be in my local currency, GBP, and I'd be expecting the 100% to be 100% of my balance in GBP. Also USDJPY will merely be one of a number of pairs I'll use.

    • RE: Stack Overflow in tester after n edits in fxDreema

I think it occurred after I'd amended the text in a block's title or simply moved a block on the screen. I think it was that simple! I don't know what I was doing when the first one happened.

    • RE: Buy/Sell block money management 100% of balance

This is the screen shot for what I did:

      Clipboard02.jpg

This is what I get in the tester:

      __2013.06.04 17:15:15 Core 1 initial deposit 10000.00 USD, leverage 1:500
      [/quote:g6ahd3de]

      __2013.06.04 17:15:15 Core 1 2000.01.03 00:01:00 instant buy 0.10 USDJPY at 102.190 sl: 101.190 tp: 103.190 (102.140 / 102.190 / 102.140)
      [/quote:g6ahd3de]

I don't think this is 100%! 🙂 Maybe I'm not understanding something, though.

    • RE: Stack Overflow in tester after n edits in fxDreema

I know I posted about this before, but I've experienced the problem again today.

After a certain (high-ish) number of edits, re-edits and compilations my tester stops with "Stack Overflow". When I've calmed down again, I then laboriously re-type the whole EA into a new file in fxDreema, and the problem goes away.

Therefore it kinda looks like a corruption during an edit/re-edit after a number of times. 😢

    • RE: Buy/Sell block money management 100% of balance

      Dear fxDreema

As always, thanks for a great piece of software. I'd be completely lost without it. 🙂

I'm having a little difficulty understanding the money management side of the buy/sell blocks.

When I specify that I want to trade with 100% of my balance (which I normally wouldn't do!), fxDreema only uses a tiny fraction of this. When I was at school ( 🙂 ! ) 100% of $10000.00 was $10000.00!

I've had a look around the web site but don't see any explicit information to cover this.

I may be missing something which is quite obvious, for which I apologise in advance!

Oops! Sorry! My mistake. You are, as always, quite correct. I didn't do Projects -> New project (choose MQL5). I'm too used to just accepting the default! 😳

    • RE: Changing from MT4 to MT5

      I'm using the local version.

      I have moved from MT4 to MT5. I unistalled MT4, and then installed MT5.

Fxdreema said it couldn't find MT4, and made no mention of MT5 - the "Export to" button still said ".mq4". All the paths are correct in Global Options, although I can't delete the "C:\Program Files\MetaTrader 4" entry doesn't stay deleted, and is, of course not installed.

So I deleted the fxdreema folder, and re-installed. No change. I still can't export to MT5, and fxdreema continues to complain that MT4 isn't there.

      What could be wrong?
