Just to clarify I would want the origanal buy position to stay open so it would be a separate sell position that would open when the buy position is losing by a specified amount of pips. Cheers

Help understanding Candle ID when creating MA Crossover EAposted in Questions & Answers
Hi, When creating a MA Crossover EA I am finding that if I leave the candle ID as zero on the condition for the crossover then when I test I am finding the EA doesn't Buy/Sell on every crossover. It does however work when I put the candle ID as 1. I understand that candle ID 1 refers to the next candle after the crossover which is fine but I don't understand why I get mixed results when I want the EA to execute the trade on the present candle when the crossover happens. If I move the 'once per bar' below the condition then sometimes it executes the trade twice on consecutive candles. I think I am misunderstanding something fundamental.

Could someone please explain why I am struggling with getting the above EA to work as expected. All it should do is buy when the 5 EMA crosses above the 20 EMA and sell when the opposite occurs. I am running it on EUR/USD on a monthly timescale from 2000 to 2010. When testing it buys on the first crossover as expected in June 2002. It then also sells when expected in August 2005. However when I get a buy crossover in April 2006 nothing happens. I must be doing something wrong. Thank in advance.
